Let’s talk about Neuro Linguistic Programming
Neuro Linguistic Programming (termed NLP) is an approach that uses a model of communication that enables NLP practitioners and professional coaches to change people’s patterns of mental and emotional behaviour using perceptual, behavioural, and communication techniques, methods, and models.
Supports Your Personal Growth
This is a practice that will support personal change and growth for anyone wanting to explore and know themselves better and to make significant changes in how they live their life.
And Your Business Growth
And when used as a supporting strategy for developing business growth, it can facilitate organisational change through its people, by developing conscious self-awareness and increasing effective communication within the self and those around them.
NLP was developed and co-founded by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970’s and it became one of the most profoundly effective approaches for self-improvement of our time using the understanding of how we process language to better understand human connection and communication. It has been evolving as a science of people behaviour ever since. Bandler and Grinder believed it was possible to identify patterns of thought and behaviour using three significant elements of our human experience.
Explore The Power Of Your Mind
NLP explores and uses the power of our mind and language and the relationship it has with our body and behaviour to tap into and make changes to how we think and what we do.
About NLP
Neuro linguistic programming enables you to use your thoughts, words, and behaviour to change how you view yourself in the world, your habits, and the actions you take. You become better able to achieve your goals and is a powerful and empowering way to change your life. It is a positive approach I love because it is motivational and uses encouragement to support your personal goals and putting the person at the heart of the work. It enables different styles, strategies and NLP techniques to suit the individual rather than a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. In this way the NLP practitioner addresses individual needs with tailored therapeutic options to address the person’s personal goals.
NLP also allows a deep connection and positive relationship between practitioner and client by supporting the person to explore and learn about themselves and their own thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behaviours facilitating personal, positive, effective, long-term change, enabling them to reach their full potential.
Examples of NLP strategies:
Within NLP coaching clients break free from aspects such as:
This enables people to develop powerful personal beliefs and Positive habits. They can plan for success and use an action plan to produce Goal setting strategies and develop a strong confident identity for themselves.
What A Coach Can Do For You

ReFraming Explained
Just one example of a technique used a lot in NLP work is what we call reframing. Changing the cognitive frame of reference for someone helps them to experience their actions and the impact of what they believe and see it from a different perspective (frame) and potentially be more resourceful, or at least have more choice in how they then chose to then react to a given situation.
A frame provides a context for your thoughts. Just like a picture frame provides a border around a picture you see. The frame of reference you adopt is based on your beliefs, the situation and your perceived abilities and limitations. However, by changing the frame (reframing) you can gain different perspectives and give yourself more choice to think, feel or act differently.
Consider ‘anger’ as an example of an emotion. You feel frustrated or angry. Your ‘framed picture of an event,’ means you believe things should be different. Anger can cloud you mind and can sit with you in your thoughts and body for a long time affecting your thoughts, emotions and even your wellbeing.
How do you Reframe your thinking to better serve yourself?
E.g., Consider someone pulled out in front of you in a car. They just pulled out in your path, ‘Your frame’ – it was your right of way, they clearly wanted to hold you up and get in your way!
Instead – reframe it! View this scene differently. Perhaps the person had received a call to tell them a loved one had had an accident and they were desperate to be with them.
Reframed you are freer to consider what else is going on. For example, was that car really the cause of your anger and frustration. What else is happening in your life right now?
What I Can Do For You
As an NLP Coach, NLP master practitioner and wellness coach within my NLP toolkit, I use a wide range of techniques and models that support people to change, create more choice and have more happiness in their lives. Together we focus forwards, generate greater personal awareness, develop a strategy for challenging negative beliefs and a platform to change to more positive and productive mindsets.

In my NLP coaching we look at where the client is in their life and what’s stopping them achieving where they want to get to. What needs to change to be successful. What skills and capabilities are required We look at values and core beliefs, personal identity and a desire and journey for a sense of purpose and fulfilment.
NLP has been applied in many situations including leadership development, transformational coaching, therapy, education, communication skills, self-development, strengths development and more…
I use NLP in combination with coaching as a powerful fusion approach that offers the client coaching as the framework within which we work and NLP tools and techniques as part of a toolkit of options to facilitate personal development and change.
As you can tell, I am passionate about NLP and use it every day in my own life as well as my coaching practice and as an NLP life coach. There is so much to benefit from working with the unconscious mind.
